After watching the documentary War Dance, please write a reaction/reflection to the film. Feel free to respond to others' comments, as well. Further, feel free to reflect on the issue of child soldiers in general.
Your reaction should be a substantial paragraph. At least 7 sentences. Be as specific as you can. Go beyond "I liked this movie because it was great." Etc.
I think the movie was okay. I didn't think his music was that good, but it was nice that he got to see his family again. Also, I think it was kind of annoying how he tried to tell his story all the time in rap. Also I've already seen so many movies like this that I don't really care that much about it. Regarding child soldiers, I believe it is fine for children to sign up into the military so long as they want to do it. I don't believe however that someone should be capable of forcing anyone into joining the military, including the US.
ReplyDeleteAt first, I was confused that why the man spoke so fast, shook his body, and it seemed like he was almost jumping, then I knew that he was singing(speaking?) a rap song = =……It is difficult to me to understand most of the words he says, but I can understand some the movie by image.I can see the helpless in the eyes of children who have been in the war zone, while hope is still shining.
ReplyDeleteWar is politicians' game, but their innocent civilians become bargaining chips. Men and women lose their families, property, and sometimes, their lives; children lose their parents, elders suffer from disease, hunger, and poverty.
I think it's a good idea showing all the story in rap, because many people love this kind of music. They won't fall asleep as if they are listening to a passionate but long speech, which asks for contributions as well.
By the way, Jason, I think you should be a little more compassionate ╮(╯▽╰)╭~~~ The mind of all those children were just blank, they knew nothing about the war or their rights, but only all of the violence and fear. I don't think they even have had the idea of resistance. And they might could be put to death if they resisted.
I like the way Emmanuel wants to tell his story. I actually don't really like rap that much and I wouldn't say that I loved his music, but if he thinks he can help that way it's a good thing. At first it was kind of hard to understand him (probably because the speakers weren't reallt loud). But all in all the movie was welll made and had a message. It was sad when he met his sister and he told him her story. And I think the nd is good; he had the goal of building a new school. But it's so sad to see the little boys with their guns.
ReplyDeleteI* was just confused about one thing: who was that little boy who said he wanted to fly an airplane?
I thought the movie was decent. Emmanuel's music wasn't all that great, his lyrics didn't really flow to me. It was also all the same thing. I feel like he was extremely mature from all his experiences throughout his childhood or lack of one. Especially since he has had to be an adult basically his entire life. But I like his ideas and what he wants to do to help his home land in Sudan. Its good he is succeeding in building the schools. He was a true man for surviving four battles as a child then making something of himself.
ReplyDeleteI thought the movie basically told about Jal's life during the war in the Sudan and thath learned that it was mostly what Emma did to him to make him what he his. I liked the movie because it talked about forgiving towards the end of the music wham he played a song with, to him, his enemy. That's when he learned that there was a much bigger fight going on that caused his mother to die. Overall I liked the storyline of this movie where it keeps going back and forth from his days as a child soldier and him trying to pass the word about the Sudan.
ReplyDeletethis movie was very inspiring. this film made me want to really try to help out the lost boys and other people affected by the war in Sudan. i also think it is cool that he is raising awareness with his music while also raising money for the people affected. i think itis terrible that the sudanese government is so wealthy and the people are living in poverty. i wish the leaders could see what was happening to their country and try to make a positive change.
ReplyDeletesome of us are living happily without any problems in their life, but on the other side of world, many tragic events anre going on. Jal basically talked about what was going on in Sudan. He discussed that he was a war child because he didnt know anything;he valued education. He also tried to inspire others by making a song. I really thought that life was unfair after watching this movie. Sudanese are suffereing because they were born there; lucky ones(we) should help them. I was inpired by what immanuel did. Because he had enough money and understood what really was going on, he gave his everything to build a school for children.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really interested in war movies, especially with children fighting. I didn't really like his music. My point of view on children soldiers is sort of weird. I think that children under the age of 15 should NOT fight in wars because they are not fully matured. Even at 15, 47% of all kids are not fully matured. I also think that if a kid wants to enlist in war, they would have to go through a series of tests to make sure they won't goof off and possibly kill one of their allies.
ReplyDeleteI thought Emanuel was a very positive person coming from a very negative situation. I liked the way he used music to spread his message to people. I think this was smart because music is such a big deal in Sudan, and was a great way to tie in Sudan traditions. I also thought it was a great way to educate children, because children listen to music like its their job. I love how he is doing this all to help insure that kids will have a good childhood. I am very impressed that he made a school in Sudan and named it Emma Academy. I think that he is a great example of how one man can change the world. Also I really enjoyed the movie.
ReplyDeleteI thought the movie was great and very moving. I think that Emanuel isn't the best rap artist but what he raps about is very inspiring to us Americans and also to the Sudan people. He is a very positive person and when he raps he is telling people about the childhood of the Sudan people. Also I think he is very dedicated to the Sudan people and his tribe where he was born because he is paying for a new school to be built so the kids can become educated. The really neat thing that he did was that he dedicated the name of the school to Emma Academy because she was the one that rescude him. He is very inspirering and the movie was great.
ReplyDeletei thought the movie was alright. his story was sad but it should make people want to do better. I saw half of the movie and I didn't think his music was any good but people like the way he became the person he is and were inspiredby it which is what i thought. i don't know what happen at the end but the what I saw was okay.
ReplyDeleteI thought the movie was alright, but definitely wasn't a jaw dropper. I thought Emanuel's music was very interesting. He strayed away from the norm of rap music (money, girls, etc). Instead his music talked about his life in Sudan and the hardships he went through. Some of the songs were very touching I thought. It was cool that he found a way to express himself in the form of music. Many times I feel like that it is hard for someone in that situation to just come out and talk about everything that happened to them. I think this is a creative way for him to tell about what he has been through. I also think that it is easier for him to do it in this way because of his love for music. It creates a lighter mood for him to be able to talk about his hardships. I still think that he is very courageous for going through all he went through and finding a way like this to tell everyone about what he experienced and went through. I really respect him for what he does.
